About

You will be dealing with me

I am Ron Gibson. I am not owned by a lender and I am not tied to one, and that independence is the whole product. So is answering my own phone.

Finance broker, and the person who answers

Most people arrange finance twice in their life and a business owner arranges it a dozen times. Lenders do it thousands of times a week. That gap in experience is where the expensive mistakes live, and closing it is the job.

I am a finance broker, which means I arrange lending rather than provide it. I take one application, work out which lenders it genuinely suits, and put it in front of them. You end up comparing real offers from lenders who have looked at your situation, instead of advertised rates that may have nothing to do with what you would be offered.

The office is at 55 Mahana Road, Te Rapa, in Hamilton, but I am not often in it. I have driven from here to Ruatoria to sit down with somebody, because a lot of what matters in a finance conversation does not survive being typed into a form. If you would rather do this in person, ask.

The rest of it happens by phone, email and electronic signature, so where you are makes no practical difference to how fast your application moves. It only changes how long the drive is if you want me there.

What you can expect from me

  • One application, a panel of lenders

I put the same application in front of the lenders most likely to say yes, so you are not reapplying and collecting another credit enquiry each time.

  • Know your number before you shop

Find out what you can spend before you walk onto a yard or bid at auction. A pre approval turns you into a cash buyer, which is where the real negotiating happens.

  • Dealer, private sale or auction

I finance vehicles and machinery bought anywhere: a dealership, a private seller, Trade Me or an auction. The seller does not have to be on anybody's approved list.

Two things worth saying plainly

  • I will help you find it, not just pay for it

Most brokers start once you have found it and send you back out on your own until you do. If you know the budget but not the vehicle, tell me what it is for and I will go looking with you: what holds its value, what is worth avoiding, and whether the one you have found is priced right.

  • A low rate is worth more to me than a big margin

A broker who puts you on a higher rate makes more today and never hears from you again. I would rather have the rate that keeps you ringing me for the next vehicle, and the one after that. It is a longer game and it is the reason to use a broker at all.

And what I will not do

  • Put your application in front of six lenders at once to see what sticks. That is six enquiries on your credit file and it makes the next application harder.
  • Quote you a rate before anyone has assessed you. A number given that way is a negotiating tactic, not a quote.
  • Push a longer term because it makes the weekly figure look better. I will show you what it costs across the whole loan.
  • Sell your details to anybody.

It takes a few minutes to apply and it does not commit you to anything. Ring me or start online, whichever suits you better.
