Finance
Vehicle finance
Cars, utes and vans, bought from a dealer, a private seller or an auction.
A car loan through a broker is not the same product as a car loan arranged on a dealership forecourt. On the forecourt you get whichever lender that dealer has a relationship with, quoted at whatever margin the finance manager decides to add. I take one application and put it in front of the lenders on my panel, then bring back the offers side by side.
Get pre approved before you start looking. You will know exactly what you can spend, the deposit that gets you there and the weekly figure, and you can negotiate as a cash buyer rather than as somebody who still has to arrange money.
What I finance under this
- Late model cars, utes and SUVs
- Vans and light commercials for a sole trader
- Imports arriving through a compliance dealer
- A second vehicle for a family, or a first car for a teenager
- Refinancing an existing vehicle loan that is costing too much
Where you can buy it
- A franchise or independent dealership
- A private seller
- Turners or another auction house
- Trade Me
What to have ready
None of this is needed to get started. Having it to hand is simply what turns a two day answer into a same day one.
- 1. A New Zealand driver licence or passport
- 2. Your last three months of bank statements, or a read only bank feed
- 3. Two recent payslips, or last year accounts if you are self employed
- 4. The details of what you are buying, or the listing if you have found it
Repayments
Try the numbers for this
Set the price and the deposit you are thinking about, and see what the weekly figure looks like.
What would the repayments be?
Move the numbers around and see what changes. Nothing here is sent to me, and none of it is an offer of finance.
Indicative repayment
$0 per week
At an indicative 0% per year. Depending on your credit file and the asset, the rate could sit anywhere between 0% and 0%, which would make the payment $0 to $0.
- Amount financed
- $0
- Number of payments
- 0
- Total interest
- $0
Includes an indicative $395 establishment fee. This is a guide only, not an offer of finance, and it does not take your circumstances into account. Lending criteria, terms and fees apply.
Questions
Before you apply
How long does an application take?
A pre approval is usually back within one business day, and often the same day if we have everything we need. From accepting an offer to money reaching the seller is typically one to three business days, depending on the lender and on how quickly the seller can provide their details.
Can I get finance before I have found the vehicle?
Yes, and it is the better order to do it in. A pre approval tells you exactly what you can spend and what the repayments look like, so you can negotiate as a cash buyer. Pre approvals normally hold for 30 to 60 days depending on the lender.
What do you need from me?
Photo identification, three months of bank statements, and proof of income, which is two recent payslips for most people or last year accounts if you are self employed. If you have already found the asset, send us the listing or the invoice as well.
What interest rate will I get?
It depends on your credit file, the asset, the term and the size of your deposit, which is why we do not publish a single headline number. The calculator on this site uses an indicative rate so you can see the shape of the repayments. The rate in your written offer is the real one.
What fees are there?
Typically a lender establishment fee, a PPSR registration fee, and on some lenders a monthly account fee. Every one of them appears in the disclosure statement you get before you sign, and we will walk you through it. If a number in that document surprises you, we have not done our job.
