Finance

Truck and heavy transport finance

Light trucks through to heavy transport, trailers and curtainsiders.

A truck has to pay for itself, so the structure matters more than the headline rate. A seasonal operator and a linehaul operator running the same unit want two different loans: one wants payments that flex with the season, the other wants the lowest cost across a hard five years.

I have arranged finance for light trucks, heavy transport, curtainsiders and trailers throughout New Zealand. Bring me the job the truck is going to do, not just the asking price, and the structure will follow from it.

What I finance under this

  • Light and medium trucks, from a courier van up
  • Heavy transport units and prime movers
  • Curtainsiders, flat decks and tippers
  • Trailers, drawbars and B trains
  • Refrigeration units and specialist bodies

Where you can buy it

  • A truck dealership
  • A private sale between operators
  • An auction
  • A sale and leaseback of a unit you already own

What to have ready

None of this is needed to get started. Having it to hand is simply what turns a two day answer into a same day one.

  1. 1. Your New Zealand Business Number, or the company name
  2. 2. The last two years of financial statements, or your latest management accounts
  3. 3. Six months of business bank statements
  4. 4. A quote or invoice for the asset

What would the repayments be?

Move the numbers around and see what changes. Nothing here is sent to me, and none of it is an offer of finance.

Questions

Before you apply

How long does an application take?

A pre approval is usually back within one business day, and often the same day if we have everything we need. From accepting an offer to money reaching the seller is typically one to three business days, depending on the lender and on how quickly the seller can provide their details.

Can I get finance before I have found the vehicle?

Yes, and it is the better order to do it in. A pre approval tells you exactly what you can spend and what the repayments look like, so you can negotiate as a cash buyer. Pre approvals normally hold for 30 to 60 days depending on the lender.

What do you need from me?

Photo identification, three months of bank statements, and proof of income, which is two recent payslips for most people or last year accounts if you are self employed. If you have already found the asset, send us the listing or the invoice as well.

What interest rate will I get?

It depends on your credit file, the asset, the term and the size of your deposit, which is why we do not publish a single headline number. The calculator on this site uses an indicative rate so you can see the shape of the repayments. The rate in your written offer is the real one.

What fees are there?

Typically a lender establishment fee, a PPSR registration fee, and on some lenders a monthly account fee. Every one of them appears in the disclosure statement you get before you sign, and we will walk you through it. If a number in that document surprises you, we have not done our job.
